Such a wonderfully cultivated museum with such great detail. The knowledge of the docents was spectacular. I felt engaged and grew the desire to read more. The greeter were extremely pleasant and helpful. I'm just sorry I missed eating there. I hear the food is awesome. However, I deeply explored the exhibits that I literally forgot to eat in the 6 hours I was there... and still didn't get it all in.

The reflection waterfall was a nice way decompress and process.

This place is amazing. It's chock full of history and artifacts. We drove in from New York for a day trip here since our kids were on break and old enough to remember and understand what they are seeing. I honestly think most will need to go more once, as there is simply so much to see, hear and touch. It can be a bit overwhelming, and crowded depending on where you are in the building. Guided tours would be the best thing for this place. Street parking is available a few long blocks away from the museum. It's limited, but if you go on a weekend like we did you may get lucky. The good thing is you can pay via an app. With this option, you can remain in the museum and pay to add time to your parking remotely. There is a cafe in the building with great food options, but be sure to find out what time it closes for the day. Unfortunately, we waited a bit too long to dine and we found out that the cafe closed around 3pm. I highly recommend going as soon as possible. Due to politics, some in power may decide to have certain things removed from the museum. Did I mention the best part, this place is FREE!! Don't hesitate!! Log on and make you reservation and GO!!!Terrence W — Google

I finally returned to the National Museum of African American History and Culture today — the first time since visiting on its second day of opening. Back then, the energy was electric, the crowds were endless, and every corner of the building felt alive with anticipation. Coming back now, with the crowds having calmed and the pace softened, allowed me to truly absorb the depth, intention, and soul of this space in a way I couldn’t before.

Walking through the museum today felt like opening a beautifully layered book — one where every chapter carries weight, truth, and resilience. With fewer people around, I had the chance to linger, listen, and really feel the stories being told. The exhibits hit differently when you can take your time: from the deeply moving lower levels that tell the hard truths of our beginnings, to the triumphant upper floors celebrating our contributions in culture, music, sports, science, activism, cuisine, and beyond.

What stood out most today was how thoughtfully the museum blends pain with pride, struggle with brilliance, and history with the present moment. It’s not just a place you walk through — it’s a place that speaks to you. A place that reminds you of how far we’ve come, how much has been sacrificed, and how much beauty we continue to create.

Seeing it again after all these years felt like seeing it for the first time. It’s calmer now, but no less powerful — and if anything, even more impactful. I walked away grateful, reflective, and inspired. The National Museum of African American History and Culture remains a masterpiece in storytelling, preservation, and honoring our legacy. If you haven’t been in a while, it's absolutely worth revisiting. Each visit offers something new, something profound, something unforgettable.AJ C — Google

Arlington National Cemetery is one of the most powerful and moving places I’ve ever visited in the United States. It’s not just a cemetery — it’s a place of deep respect, history, and silence that speaks louder than words.

The grounds are beautifully maintained, vast, and peaceful. Walking among the rows of white headstones really makes you pause and reflect on the scale of sacrifice and the personal stories behind it. The Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is especially emotional and absolutely worth seeing — precise, dignified, and unforgettable.

This is not a tourist attraction in the usual sense. It’s a place to slow down, be quiet, and feel gratitude. I highly recommend visiting if you want to better understand American history and honor those who served.

The National Archives of the United States in Washington DC is a deeply moving and awe-inspiring place that every visitor should experience. It holds some of the most important documents in American history, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Standing before these original documents is an unforgettable moment that makes you reflect on the values and sacrifices that shaped the nation. The quiet atmosphere of the Rotunda adds to the sense of respect and reverence that the space inspires.

The building itself is magnificent and beautifully designed. Its neoclassical architecture, with massive columns and grand staircases, creates a feeling of timeless strength and dignity. Inside, the marble floors, soft lighting, and elegant decorations give the space a sense of solemnity and importance that perfectly matches the treasures it holds. The Rotunda for the Charters of Freedom is especially striking, with its impressive dome and the way the historic documents are carefully displayed and protected.

Beyond the famous founding papers, the National Archives also features fascinating exhibits about the nation’s history, democracy, and the preservation of records. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, and they help visitors understand the importance of safeguarding history for future generations. Admission is free, and the experience is worth every moment. Visiting the National Archives fills you with pride and gratitude for the enduring ideals of freedom, equality, and justice that continue to define the United States.

National Archives Museum — The Paper That Built a Nation

Walking into the National Archives Museum is like stepping into the heartbeat of American history. The room is dimly lit, intentionally quiet — the kind of quiet that commands respect. Behind protective glass lie the words that built this nation: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

As a Marine veteran, standing before those documents hits differently. You can almost feel the courage of the signatures — the inked rebellion of men who dared to dream of freedom before it was guaranteed. These weren’t perfect people, but their belief in liberty set a course that countless others, including those I served beside, have fought to preserve.

What struck me most wasn’t the paper itself, but the fragility of it — and what it represents. These documents are old, worn, and protected under glass, yet the ideals within them remain alive only if we continue to defend them in our daily lives.

The museum offers more than relics; it’s a reminder that freedom isn’t self-sustaining. It demands care, courage, and accountability — just like the parchment that birthed it.

Five stars, without hesitation. Every American should see this at least once in their life. It’s not just a museum — it’s a mirror held up to our collective soul.

It may not be the most interesting place in the world but it is worth the visit if you're in DC.A.

When I went to the museum the King Tut exhibit was on display.

The museum took me about an hour to go through. I stopped and looked at/read/watched everything. The museum does not have any artifacts. It is a series of displays that have information on King Tut’s mummification and the related religious practices in Egypt at the time.

The displays are well done and interesting to look at. The displays are all projected images and short clips/films (with narration). The information is quite repetitive though. I understand not a ton is known about Tut so that’s probably why this exhibit doesn’t have a ton of information.

The gift shop is nice. When I went they had replica jewelry of what king Tut had in his tomb, which I thought was pretty cool. The prices in the gift shop were reasonable too.

Within the National Geographic HQ is an off-the-beaten path museum. Celebrating the work of National Geographic, the museum rotates photography-centric exhibits showcasing the wonders of the universe. After two years closed due to the pandemic, the museum reopened with safety protocols (mask and social distancing requirements) on February 16, 2022. Here's what you should know:

1) Price: It's one of the few museums in Washington, D.C. that requires a paid ticket, but the prices aren't outrageous. Regular tickets are $15 and includes all exhibits in the museum. For students, military and seniors, it's $12. Children 5-12 are $10 and children under five are free. Reserve tickets online to guarantee entry.

2) Hours: The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3) Exhibits: They change, but when they reopened, they had two exhibits. The first explores wildlife photography and the photographers behind the photographs. This exhibit is photo heavy, but includes a few interactive parts like an area to have your photo taken and a film with stunning footage of wildlife. The second exhibit showcases Mount Everest and the people who have climbed it. This exhibit is more interactive than the first, but both are worth it.

4) Store: At the end of the museum is a store with photograph-decorated walls and lots of merchandise from backpacks to cloths to books. There's also a kids section with a reading area filled with giant stuffed animals.

5) Location: Located in downtown D.C., the museum is within walking distance to neighborhoods like Dupont Circle and Logan Circle filled with restaurants. When it reopens, The Coffee Bar on 17th Street NW brews a quality cup of coffee. Street parking can often be found along Rhode Island Ave NW near the Canopy Hotel.

I’ve had the honor of visiting the memorial both during the day and at night. Both instances are beautiful. During the daytime is more ideal for pictures. The MLK memorial is about a 10 minutes walk from the Lincoln Memorial. So if you’re visiting one spot; it’s worth going to visit the other one.

There are restrooms next to the memorial; which is nice. Also there is a rack for electric scooters and bicycles; in case you’re thinking about using them to move around.

If you’re physically able to, I do recommend using e-bike or scooters to move around. There is no nearby vehicle parking, which is a bummer. But we used e-bikes/scooters when we came, so we didn’t worry about parking.

THE PHILLIPS COLLECTION

The Phillips Collection is America’s first museum of modern art. It is a smaller museum, located in the home of its founder Duncan Phillips, and an adjacent building. I lived in Washington DC’s Dupont Circle neighborhood where the museum was nearby and was thrilled to visit often. The smaller size and elegant architecture of the museum is intimate and inviting. You feel as though you’ve been invited by the collector into his home. There's even a grand piano and a larger room where musical events are hosted.

The permanent collection is notably diverse, representing a wide range of art movements, including European, Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, African American, American Modernist and Contemporary art. The museum rotates its exhibited paintings and regularly features traveling exhibitions—so there's always something new to see.

🌟COLLECTION HIGHLIGHTS

• European Art: Masterpieces such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s Luncheon of the Boating Party. Other artists include Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, and El Greco.

• African American Art: Jacob Lawrence's The Migration Series is a powerful example of storytelling through painting. Works by Romare Bearden are also featured.

• American Art: Artists include Childe Hassam, Maurice Prendergast, J. Alden Weir, Georgia O’Keeffe, Richard Diebenkorn and Mark Rothko.

• Rothko Room: A special room is dedicated to the meditative paintings of Mark Rothko.

• Contemporary Art: Artists such as Sam Gilliam and Rufino Tamayo.

I’m impress by the collection of stamps at this museum—it’s incredible! Every conceivable design imaginable has been transformed into a stamp. You could easily spend a couple of hours exploring. Although we didn’t have much time to explore deeper into the museum, the limited time we had certainly piqued my interest. From the history of stamps to their manufacturing process, everything was fascinating. There’s even a cute little gift shop! The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The entry is free as well! If we ever return to Washington, D.C., I’ll definitely make a stop here and spend more time exploring!

From the moment you step into the Smithsonian National Postal Museum in Washington, D.C., you realize this is no ordinary museum—it’s a quietly spectacular celebration of communication, innovation, and human connection.

Walking through the soaring atrium beneath three suspended airmail planes, I was struck by how artfully the museum weaves together history, technology, and stories. The exhibits take you on a journey from colonial post roads to stagecoaches, early automobiles, mail trains, and futuristic sorting systems. The National Philatelic Collection—with nearly six million stamps and related items—offers a deeper treasure trove for philatelists and casual visitors alike.

As someone who rarely gets excited about stamps, I was won over: there are interactive displays, compelling storytelling, and surprising historical nuggets—like the poetic inscription “The Letter” etched on the building facade, a tribute to how letters bind communities.

Logistics:

• Address: While the Google maps address is correct, you might have to walk over to the next street for entry.

• Hours: Daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (closed December 25)

• Admission: Always free

• Getting there: The museum sits directly across from Union Station (just a short walk). If you’re taking Metro, that’s an easy Red Line stop. There is paid parking at Union Station and nearby street parking options.

• Accessibility: Wheelchair-accessible entrances and accommodations are available.

• Guided tours & events: The museum offers docent-led tours and public programming (check their events calendar) to deepen your experience.

What’s genuinely special about the Postal Museum is that it takes what might seem mundane—the letter, the stamp, the envelope—and reveals an entire tapestry of human ambition, connection, and innovation. You leave appreciating that the postal system is more than mail: it’s a mirror of America’s national growth, social transformations, and even artistic expression.

I spent about one to two hours exploring comfortably, but a devoted stamp collector or history nerd could easily spend more. The museum’s size is just right—complete and immersive, without overwhelming.

If your travels bring you to DC, don’t skip this gem. It blends scholarship and fun, historical depth and personal stories, and best of all—won’t cost you a penny to enjoy. Highly recommended!

This is definitely a hidden gem.

I was truly looking forward to visiting this museum for the first time yesterday, but had my experience quickly ruined upon entry. Like any museum, it is no surprise that the postal museum has security that you have to walk through before the exhibits. However, yesterday when I went in, I was searched for a ridiculously long time and in a genuinely dehumanizing way by over 3 security personnel. I felt as though I was specifically being treated horribly and singled out for my appearance/identity (I am visibly Arab). While it is standard to have your bag looked through/checked; every single item in my mini backpack was taken out, and I was questioned about every one (mind you the answers included: a notebook, a bagel, an empty jar, my glasses, a Quran, used napkins, eyeliner, mascara, etc.). I was scanned more than once by the metal detecter wand (which went off on non metal items), had every key/keychain on my carabiner looked through, and made to lift my pants/go through the motions of an intense security check. By the time I was finally let into the museum, I had been questioned and searched by so many staff members that I no longer felt interested in exploring, even though I am a genuine collector of stamps & stickers, and a huge fan of museums about public transit, mail, and related topics. While I understand this is a federal organization, in the center of the Capitol, I do feel a strong conviction that all members of the public should be treated equally and fairly in public spaces such as these. It was both humiliating and a remarkable waste of time to be treated the way I was, questioned at length about items that clearly posed zero threat to staff, other people in the museum, or myself. Overall, out of the many staff members we encountered during our visit (not just those who accosted me at the entrance) only ONE member treated us with kindness and respect — a lovely woman near the gift shop. I wish I could say I would be coming back to explore/learn more about a subject I’m deeply interested in, but do not see myself returning to this space, ever. It is not a safe space nor one geared to serve diverse members of the public. A hugely disappointing experience

Such a pretty place to relax and take beautiful photos. Lots of professional photographers taking wedding photos. Tons of wildlife in the area. Lots of people have picnics here so the squirrels are rampant and entertaining. Overall this is a great place to have a meal or just sit and people watch.

My Take - The Sculpture Garden at the National Gallery of Art is a cool spot if you’re spending time around the National Mall. It’s not massive, but it’s a nice break from the busy museums and monuments.

Ambience & Layout

The garden feels like a little oasis right in the middle of DC. You get trees, a big fountain, benches to sit on, and plenty of open space. Even though you’re in the middle of the city, it feels calm. In the summer it’s great for a relaxing walk, and in the winter the fountain turns into an ice rink, which gives it a completely different vibe.

Sculptures

They’ve got a solid mix of modern and contemporary pieces. Some are big and bold, like Robert Indiana’s “AMOR” or Roy Lichtenstein’s “House I”, which plays tricks with perspective as you walk by. Others are more subtle, like granite seating sculptures you can actually sit on. It’s not overwhelming—just enough to enjoy without feeling rushed or overloaded.

Experience

For me, this is the kind of place you stroll through at your own pace. You don’t need hours; 20–30 minutes is enough to see everything, but it’s also easy to just sit down and relax if you want to take a break. It’s free, which makes it even better.

Seasonal Stuff

If you’re here in the summer, they host Jazz in the Garden, which a lot of people rave about—live music with art and nature around you. In the winter, skating on the fountain is a fun touch and pretty popular.

Pavilion Café

Right next to the garden is the Pavilion Café. Nothing fancy, but good for a sandwich, salad, or a drink. It fits the vibe—casual, not too many choices, but decent.

Final Word

Overall, the Sculpture Garden is a peaceful, low-key place that balances art and nature really well. It’s not huge, but it’s worth the stop—especially if you need a break from all the indoor museum walking.

Eastern Market: The Historic and Cultural Heart of Capitol Hill

History and Architecture

Eastern Market is where history, architecture, culture, and community life come together. From its opening in 1873, through its expansion in 1908, the devastating fire of 2007, and its triumphant reopening in 2009, it has remained the historic and cultural heart of Capitol Hill. For both residents and visitors, Eastern Market is an essential stop to experience the authentic spirit of Washington, DC.

Opened in 1873 and designed by German-born architect Adolf Cluss, Eastern Market is one of Washington, DC’s most enduring landmarks. With its Italianate brick façade, arched windows, and functional layout, it was conceived as a modern public market that combined both utility and elegance.

In 1908, architect Snowden Ashford expanded the market with the Center Hall and North Hall, establishing the market as a focal point of the Capitol Hill community.

A defining moment in its history occurred on April 30, 2007, when a devastating fire destroyed much of the South Hall. Despite the damage, vendors continued operating in a temporary market nearby. Following an extensive restoration effort, Eastern Market reopened in 2009, fully restored and recognized for excellence in historic preservation and design.

Products and Culture

Eastern Market is more than a place to shop; it is a thriving cultural hub where flavors, traditions, and creativity converge.

Inside the South Hall: fresh meats, seafood, cheeses, baked goods, flowers, and gourmet specialties.

Weekend outdoor market: local farmers, antiques, arts and crafts, with over 100 exhibitors representing a wide variety of cultures.

Cultural events: live music, art shows, and seasonal festivals, which keep the market at the heart of community life.

Culinary Highlights

One of the best-known spots inside the market is Market Lunch, famous for its crab cake sandwich and blueberry pancakes. Visitors can also enjoy artisan breads, charcuterie, cheeses, and homemade desserts.

Tip: although most vendors accept cards, some still prefer cash.

Location and Access

Address: 225 7th Street SE, Washington, DC.

Metro: Eastern Market Station (Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines), one block from the market.

Bus: Several Metrobus routes, including 30N, 30S, and 32, stop nearby.

Bike: Multiple Capital Bikeshare stations are located around the area.

Car: Limited street parking with meters and a few small private lots; weekends are busy, so arriving early is recommended.

Hours of Operation

South Hall (indoor market):

Tuesday to Saturday: 7 a.m. – 6/7 p.m.

Sunday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Farmers’ market and arts & crafts (outdoors): weekends, from morning through mid-afternoon.

Tip: Arrive early on Saturdays for the freshest produce, or visit on Sundays for a lively cultural atmosphere.

Visiting Tips

Go early on Saturdays if your priority is fresh food.

Sundays are perfect for music, art, and community gatherings.

Bring a reusable shopping bag.

Check the official calendar of events before your visit.

Explore Capitol Hill’s cafés, bookstores, and restaurants within walking distance.

I rate it 4 because I think the place could be better and more organized. I think it's a historical gem and it's a bit abandoned.

If you’re even slightly interested in history, absolutely go here.

TLDR: Gorgeous home with knowledgeable tour guides, willing to tackle tough history while still making the information palatable with an adorable gift shop.

I went last year (June 2024) during their exhibit about the history of the enslaved workers in the house. Our lovely tour guide not only gave our group context about the home, but centered it squarely on the enslaved workers, their stories and struggles, and where their descendants are now. They replaced the photos of the home owners with the enslaved workers for this exhibit, which I found touching. Any question I poised the tour guide tackled with incredible knowledge and depth, never making me feel silly for inquiring.

The tour was around an hour, seeing most areas of the home and marveling in their architectural beauty. The home wasn’t air conditioned, but they provided fans and had electric fans blowing during the start of our tour. The tour ended in a big loop, so make sure to swing by the gift shop to look at their cute goodies. I also decided to stroll through their luscious gardens, which is an absolute must do. (Also the route walking to the house is gorgeous!)

I cannot comment on their current exhibit as I’m back from DC, but I’m sure it’s to the high caliber of this one last year. This was incredibly informative on the changing DC landscape and on those who quietly keep the homes of the rich and powerful working. 9:30 Club is the perfect size venue. A full show fits about 1200 people. It's all general admission and you can either hang out on the main floor or up on the balcony. The size is big enough to attract moderately large bands and get a great crowd response, but also small enough to feel intimate.

My wife and I are in our 60's and I've never been on a Segway before. I'm having some knee trouble so we decided the Capital Segway Tour would be a good way of learning about DC. I admit to being quite terrified as we waited to mount up, but Yates and Carl spent time to teach us the basics indoors, and then stepped us through the first outdoor maneuvers. Riding them is not completely trivial, but everyone in our group learned quickly and our two guides kept us informed and safe. What more can you ask? The best two hours of our weekend in DC...other than a spectacular Nick Cave show at the Anthem (the main reason for our visit). The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Washington, D.C., whether for spiritual reflection, architecture, or cultural appreciation. I can confidently say that this basilica stands out for its breathtaking neo-Byzantine and Romanesque design, which combines intricate mosaics, soaring domes, and remarkable stained-glass windows.

The Masses are deeply uplifting, offering a sense of renewal and spiritual connection. The reverent yet welcoming atmosphere makes it accessible for both long-time parishioners and first-time visitors. The music and choir elevate the experience, creating a serene environment for prayer or quiet contemplation.

Beyond worship, the basilica is an architectural and artistic treasure. Every corner reveals exquisite artwork, from detailed marble carvings to vibrant mosaics depicting the life of the Virgin Mary. The quiet chapels throughout the basilica provide intimate spaces for reflection, and the outdoor gardens offer a peaceful retreat.

For travelers, history enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a moment of peace in D.C., the basilica is a true gem. It is easy to access, well-maintained, and offers a welcoming experience for people of all backgrounds.

Excellent museum experience. The design of the building is lovely & thoughtful. The content of the various displays is very well done. There is obviously a lot for those who are Christians to appreciate, but there is a tremendous amount of content that will be fascinating to the curious, the skeptic, and others. I was actually quite fascinated to notice that it was honest and thorough, but not preachy. It felt not at all "intended to convert," but rather to provide an exposition of the historical, cultural, literary, and spiritual impact of the Bible. There were excellent displays of historically significant manuscripts, including numerous first edition publications.

As a scholar, and a pastor, I was pleased with the thoroughness of the displays, but they did not delve deeply into obscure topics such as textual criticism, manuscript evidence, etc.

As a dad of seven kids, I also appreciated the portions of the museum that were specifically designed that direction. I also walked through with them.

The Museum of the Bible is far more than just a historical exhibit; it's a truly immersive and well-cared-for experience that deserves a full day of exploration. From the moment you step inside, the attention to detail is evident. The nice, clean floors reflect light and set a welcoming, pristine tone for the entire building—a level of cleanliness that extends even to the essential spots, as the clean bathrooms throughout the museum are clearly well-maintained.

The core of the experience, the amazing stories of the Bible, are told through innovative, engaging, and interactive exhibits that captivate both casual visitors and dedicated scholars. It's a journey through history and narrative that feels both educational and inspiring. If you're visiting with family, the amazing kids part is an absolute highlight, offering younger visitors a hands-on, fun way to engage with the material.

Beyond the exhibits, the amenities are top-notch. The staff deserves a huge shout-out; the entire team is made up of great staff who are knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help guide you. And when you're ready for a break, the dining experience on the sixth floor is excellent. They offer great food options that are both satisfying and delicious, a perfect mid-day refueling spot.

Finally, no visit is complete without a stop at the cool gift shop, which is packed with unique items and souvenirs.

If there's one piece of advice to maximize your trip, it's this: come early in the morning. The sheer size and depth of the collection mean you'll need the whole day to utilize all the experience and truly appreciate everything this fantastic museum has to offer.

This is hands down one of the best museums I have ever been to. It is 6 floors of just incredible. It is interactive and educational. I learned so much. I just enjoyed being there, we loved it so much we bought a membership. It would take 9 days at 8 hours a day to get through it all. Another thing about it that i thought was very cool is that it is not overwhelming, some museums just burn your brain in a few hours, this one does not do this. There is no review that can do this place justice. There is a floor with artifacts, a floor dedicated of bibles and the translations, a floor with a phenomenal old testament interactive experience, a new testament interactive experience, a walk through what living in the time would have looked like including actual people of the time, we have not finished the rest but we will be back and I can not wait. Also while there are options to eat elsewhere, I would not recommend leaving , the food is delicious. Everyone in our party had nothing but rave reviews, the dining team also just incredible. I can not recommend a visit here enough and come when they open because you will need all the time you can get.G S — Google

A Powerful and Memorable Experience

I was genuinely impressed by the Museum of the Bible. The exhibits are beautifully done immersive, modern, and rich with history.

The museum is easy to navigate, the staff were kind and helpful.

Overall, I left feeling inspired and grateful I took the time to visit. Highly recommend!

Most of the museums in DC are free to the public. This is not one of them. Tickets are approximately $25.00 each for adults. This price doesn’t include any special presentations that are taking place.

I liked the small village with actors. We were also there while the mosaic floor was displayed. We had watched a program about the discovery and it was neat to see it.

The printing press demo was also informative and entertaining.

There is a lot of historical information to read so be prepared.

I didn’t realize there was a cost for tickets and I was surprised that the cost was higher than I wanted to pay. All in all, I was disappointed. IMO, the ticket price was too high for what was displayed in the museum.

On a very hot summer in July 2017 while living in the DMV, I had the pleasure of going on the tour of Frederick Douglass’ last known residence. It was an awesome 4th of July experience as a black American who has learned a little about Douglass’ history as a black American slave and freed man in the United States of America. I got to hear the recital of Frederick Douglass’ infamous what to a slave is the 4th of July speech. The speech was recited outside in the backyard of the historical site by someone cosplaying as Frederick Douglass. There was a nice seating arrangement for tourists while the speech was recited. The site was pretty full with tourists who sat side by side one another in the hot July sun to listen to the recital of this speech all in the spirit of the 4th of July and appreciation of Douglass’ impact on the world through sharing his experiences during and after slavery in America. It was pretty amusing and interesting to see how he lived during that time period. I got lots of nice pictures of the actual site itself. I was super honored and excited to be there. Overall, Georgetown Waterfront Park is perfect for a relaxing outdoor escape in DC whether you’re looking for exercise, a picnic, or just a peaceful riverside stroll.

Charming and historic neighborhood with beautiful houses, tree-lined streets, and a relaxed vibe. The Georgetown Waterfront Park is a highlight — perfect for a walk along the Potomac, relaxing by the fountains, or enjoying the views. A must-visit spot in D.C.!LIGHTCOR T — Google

Lots of restaurants however not many shops, and no where to get a “quick bit” or ice cream. Benches were sparse along the waterfront. The museum was fun, it had a lot of your standard children’s museum stuff- a big climbing area and slide, a bubble area where you stand inside a big ring and make a bubble around yourself, stations to explore aerodynamics. Nothing that seemed super unique or specific to its DC location. It was clean and the space was super enjoyable for the kids. We came for a birthday party and I’d have loved for the staff to do more educating and engaging with the kids- they kind of just gave them materials and then let them experiment, which was fine but I’ve been to really fun parties where people give fun demonstrations and information to create a really nice interactive experience and this wasn’t that. We had fun and I love that we got to attend this party- but I wasn’t left with the impression that this is where I’d want to throw a birthday party for one of my kids in the future.

This place is such a disappointment. I’m literally sitting here while my kid is “playing” with one of the completely cheap exhibits they made out of the sale section of Michael’s. That’s a compliment. Like here’s a section made from recycled container lids. Every exhibit in here looks like it could’ve been made by a sixth grade classroom. The more “sophisticated” ones could have been made by an 8th grade classroom.

If you actually want go to an amazing children’s museum, go to the one in Pittsburgh. We came here thinking it would be at least on par with that and are utterly shocked. It’s worse than I thought, some of these sections are an absolute joke. This Smithsonian natural history museum is free and it is 10000 times better than this for kids.E E — Google

I bought tickets ahead of time so I was able to get scanned in quickly — there was no line. If you’re taking the metro in, we had no issue walking from Metro Center. Soooo many things to do for all ages and some things are separated by rooms so it’s not total chaos. It was pretty crowded considering we went in the middle of a random Wednesday. Comparable to Port Discovery in Baltimore. Only complaint is that they really should allow at least 1 free parent in with the child or at least offer a discounted parent ticket — it gets pricey paying the same amount for children and adults. With that said, adults will have fun, too! Loved the Paw Patrol, SpongeBob, and Wild Kratts exhibits to appeal to the pop culture fanbase. They have a lot of cubbies to keep your belongings in if you’re trusting enough to leave your purse/diaper bag (I faced no issue with this).
